SVPA Advocacy for Traffic Lights at Reid/Lord has been heard by Minister for Transport, Troy Buswell

The SVPA has been a strong advocate for traffic lights at Lord St and Reid Hwy. Today’s announcement that lights will be installed at the busy and dangerous intersection have been warmly welcomed by the community.

This is the beginning of the Perth to Darwin Highway and a major move towards alleviating significant road transport issues. Calls for a train line at massive cost would have seen this project delayed.

The SVPA believes that major road infrastructure is needed to support development of the North East Corridor and to support urban transport needs. We thank the State government for this forward looking initiative. Reducing heavy traffic through the Swan Valley is a necessary direction for tourism business.

The Minister announced an $8m injection of funds to get works started on planning the new highway. We now need Federal government support for the project but have been disappointed to date.
