Swan Valley – Service Gap Analysis

The Swan Valley Progress Association, in response to the survey being conducted by City of Swan’s social planning team on Service Gap Analysis did a brain storm to prepare the below list of key issues and services required for the Swan Valley and surrounds:-

  • Rollout of the NBN (National Broadband Network) as a priority
  • Free WiFi in the Swan Valley Intensive Tourism Zone
  • Need East–West connecting infrastructure to link both sides of the valley
  • Establish a Visitor Centre and Aboriginal cultural centre within the valley
  • Improve and establish more footpaths, walk trails and cycle paths locally and between tourism venues along the Valley’s food & wine trail
  • Improve Valley’s river access, infrastructure and foreshore amenity
  • Improve amenity at Barker’s Bridge e.g. toilets, bitumen and signage
  • Underground power along West Swan Road
  • Liaise with local sporting clubs and schools regarding their specific needs
  • Need affordable aged care facilities
  • Continue annual bulk waste pick-up from properties
  • Beautification programs to tidy up the valley
  • Improve accessibility and affordability of community hall use
  • Tourism marketing needs to be strengthened and expanded
  • Improve tourism transport by establishing CAT Bus, especially on weekends. As well as bike hire e.g. electric bikes
  • Improved public transport including bus and rail
  • Improved art trails, public art and an improved arts & cultural events calendar held at local vineyards
  • Improve the public open space at Maali Bridge, Barrett Road, Herne Hill. Presently this is a cycle and pedestrian bridge and its potential as an important parkland to improve river access is considerable. This is also a logical location for the proposed East West road infrastructure in the valley.
  • Enhance equestrian amenities especially riding trails and arenas . Of course, this would need further discussion with the equestrian community directly.
  • Gidgegannup and Jane Brook residential community – while part of the City’s Swan Valley/Gidgegannup Ward  they have their own particular needs and issues you would need to follow up.

gap_analysis_compThe main purpose of the Service Gap Analysis is to identify what is missing from current services in the Swan Valley. The Service Gap Analysis will identify what is missing from current services, but will not provide direct guidance on how to fill the gaps. Instead, it will provide valuable information to help identify and prioritise improvements to service type, level and quality across the City. The information gathered from the Service Gap Analysis will be used to stimulate further discussion, to devise appropriate strategies for action, and assist in making sustainable decisions that reflect the needs of the diverse City of Swan community.
